How USPS Confirm® Service Works

How USPS Confirm® Service Works

Confirm service takes advantage of existing technologies that provide enhanced mail tracking and visibility. All it requires from you is a little planning and preparation.

With Confirm service, you identify each piece of mail with an additional barcode, known as a PLANET Code®. As mailpieces with PLANET® Codes are processed, electronic records are created and sent to you. Records are also available through USPS®' Mail Tracking & Reporting Web site Prepare Your Mail When you prepare your mail, you print the PLANET barcode on the mailpiece. Then you tell U.S. Postal Service® when and where your mailing will be entered into the mailstream, and what PLANET Codes will be used.

In the final step before sending your mail, print another barcode, known as a Shipment ID barcode, on the USPS Forms that accompany your mail. USPS scans the Shipment ID barcode on the form at each induction site, letting you and USPS know when the mailing was entered. The Confirm Module for DAT-MAIL or Post Master will automatically print the Shipment ID barcode on the required 8125 and 3152-A forms.

Receive Information
When your mail is in the system, you'll be able to monitor it several times each day. Here are some highlights of Confirm's tracking service:

Data Access
You will be able to view your data on the Mail Tracking & Reporting Web site. You also can receive your raw scan data directly from USPS several times each day.

Scan Data
As USPS processes mail, scan data records are created each time mailpieces are sorted. This data appears in the Confirm reports and can be sent to you directly.

Predicting Delivery
You can predict the delivery time of your mailpiece, based on the information you receive from the scan data.

Reports
Confirm reports are available, and provide information related to your mailings including service information.
