Processing your mailings using before/after rates
Question: We have a concern if we will be able to run a mailing with new rates before the actual effective date. Due to the complexity and bulkiness of our programs, there is sometimes a large window between running the software and final verification with USPS.

Software can help prepare for USPS® changes in 2007
USPS Regulation changes in the Spring of 2007 will be transforming the mail preparation method once again. In 1996, Mail Classification Reform was implemented, with new categories and mail classes introduced to meet customers’ needs and simplify postal operations. The cost structure for these various services encouraged mailers to prepare proper addresses, use barcodes and presort their mailpieces for faster processing and lower costs. Mailers who were running the most efficient mailing operation possible were able to save more on postage with worksharing discounts and smart addressing.

The postage block that you see on many mail pieces—parcels and letters—is called a permit imprint. It is tied to a permit (account) that the mailer has opened and funded at the Post Office where she deposits mail for shipment.
